Large Hopi Bowl By Nampeyo of Hano

Item: 1696

Origin: Hopi – Nampeyo of Hano
Date: Circa 1915
Media: Clay
Dimensions: 11″ diameter, 4 1/4″ tall

Description:  This is a wonderful bowl by Nampeyo of Hano.  The shape is beautiful and sensual with its curves. Unfortunately, there is much paint loss, especially in the interior.  The exterior is heavily painted with abstract designs of feathers.  The interior also has abstract feather designs characteristic of the earlier Sikyatki period.  There is a free floating directional design with an arrow at one end and a tail at the other end.  The overall shape is strong enough to carry this piece on it’s own and the exterior designs are bold and beautifully constructed.
